Conveying Meaning through Sound

Workshop Description

The Cairo International Film Festival, in partnership with the Fulbright Commission in Egypt, are pleased to announce a workshop on AI in sound design and editing that will be led by Dr. Monte Taylor, Clinical Assistant Professor of Music Technology at Purdue University and Fulbright U.S. Specialist to Egypt.

 

In this eight-day workshop, participants will reinforce their knowledge in the areas of sound, acoustics, and digital audio, and learn about various tools and techniques used for editing, mixing, and sound design. These tools and techniques will be used to explore new concepts for working with sound on a deeper artistic level, and how such concepts can be used to enhance one’s creative practice in sound design and editing. Furthermore, participants will have the opportunity to share, discuss, and receive feedback from their peers on their own work in sound.

 

Submission deadline is Thursday, August 29, 2024.

 

Requirements:

  • National or residents of Egypt
  • At least 21 years of age at time of application
  • Have at least one credit on a short or feature film as a sound designer

Certificates of Participation:

Participants must commit to attending all days of the workshop. Certificates of Participation will be issued following completion of the workshop.

 

Dr. Monte Taylor:

Dr. Monte Taylor is a composer, audio engineer, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Music Technology at Purdue University’s Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance. His works have been performed in festivals and conferences worldwide.

He holds a B.M. in Music Composition from the University of Missouri, an M.M. in Music Composition from the University of Miami Frost School of Music, and a D.M.A in Music Composition from the University of Texas at Austin Butler School of Music.
